Earworm…

I’ve been listening to a pretty wide variety of music here lately.

My intake of music normally consists of songs that I would like our congregation to learn and sing at Hickory Grove.

Very seldom do I get a new record just to enjoy. However, I came across a record the other day.

The band is called Citizens. They are artists from Mars Hill Church in the Seattle. Go check them out.

It’s different from what I sing and lead but it is fun listening.

This is my favorite song from the album.

I don’t understand some of this artistry. I’m totally not a hipster. But the music is just good.

Worship Recap…

Wonderful services yesterday! One of the things I enjoyed most outside of the sermon was the ordinance of baptism. It was great to see 8 people get baptized. I knew some of the candidates and their stories. That makes that time so special.

As usual, I am thankful for a Bible teaching church. Yesterday’s sermon was right on time for our people, me included.

Here’s the set list:

Praise Him-Hillsong

Cornerstone-Hillsong

The Wonderful Cross-Tomlin

Not for a moment-Andrews-Vertical Church Band

At the cross-Hillsong

Worship Recap…

This weekend was incredible! We had our DNOW weekend for our students. There were probably over 400 something students just from Hickory Grove. It was a great weekend of fellowship and discipleship. Matt Papa led in worship and Clayton King preached.

Justin Paslay, our Campus Pastor, preached on Sunday morning. He did a fantastic job bringing God’s Word. Justin has tremendous knowledge and passion for the Bible.

It’s been a great weekend at Hickory Grove!

Here’s the set list from Sunday:

Living for Jesus – Valley of Vision…

O Saviour of sinners,

Thy name is excellent,

         thy glory high,

         thy compassions unfailing,

         thy condescension wonderful,

         thy mercy tender.

I bless thee for the discoveries, invitations,

     promises of the gospel

   for in them is pardon for rebels,

     liberty for captives,

     health for the sick,

     salvation for the lost.

I come to thee in thy beloved name of Jesus;

   re-impress thy image upon my soul;

Raise me above the smiles and frowns of the world,

   regarding it as a light thing to be judged by men;

May thy approbation be my only aim,

   thy Word my one rule.

Make me to abhor that which grieves thy

     Holy Spirit,

   to suspect consolations of a worldly nature,

   to shun a careless way of life,

   to reprove evil,

   to instruct with meekness those who oppose me,

   to be gentle and patient towards all men,

   to be not only a professor but an example

     of the gospel,

   displaying in every relation, office, and condition

     its excellency, loveliness and advantages.

How little have I illustrated my principles

   and improved my privileges!

How seldom I served my generation!

How often have I injured and not recommended

   my Redeemer!

How few are those blessed through me!

In many things I have offended,

   in all come short of thy glory;

Pardon my iniquity, for it is great.

Our campus pastor Justin mentioned one day recently about life being tough. It comes at you sometimes from every direction. Sometimes the tough things seem to surround you.

I heard story after story of God’s faithfulness yesterday in the lives of our people. The songs that we sang were grounded in God’s Word and brought truth to our circumstances. The only way we can stand is to base our lives on God’s Word.

Deut 31:6 Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.

Journaling, Journible, and Jordache…

Let me start by saying this… I stink at journaling. There you have it. I get going, then stop because I get “too busy”. Then I feel bad. Then the cycle continues.

Enter the Journible…

This makes it easy. I actually have something to write each day. I don’t have to think it up myself. It’s there for me to write. See, the Journible (Pastor Clint’s favorite word in the universe) is all about writing the book of John. Word for word. Each day. For me, I am able to recall scripture much more effectively after I’ve written it down. Along with writing the verses down, I use the left side of the page as my prayer journal. There are questions on the left side of the pages that you can answer if you’d like. But you don’t have to. I don’t. I pray for people there. (Jesus Juke). Every day. So now journaling is fun and easy with the Journible.

As for Jordache, I needed another J word. I mean, come on, I don’t wear Jordache. They don’t have flaps over the back pockets…

Fantastic day in the church house yesterday. Pastor kicked off the year with our John series. It’s just getting started so there’s time to get plugged in. Also, we started The Gospel Project and a new bible reading plan. It’s gonna be a great year of studying God’s Word.
