Leadership…

I am learning so much.

I get to be involved in ministries in which I learn a tremendous amount. We are blessed at HGBC to have strong leaders that are desiring to invest in other ministers and people.

I was given a list of words that describe different leadership styles in column and varying styles in a different column. It was difficult as I went through and decided which side of the scale I was on. I learned a lot about how I lead. So I figured I would pass along this goodness.

Let's start easy:

A leader who has followers shows some leadership

versus

A leader who reproduces leaders shows significant leadership

Which are you? We all want to be one who reproduces leaders not just have a following.

Be honest with yourself. If you think about it, you really aren't fooling anyone.

Worship Recap…

Yesterday was a really good day. Well every day is a good day, but some are just better than others. Yesterday was better. God was rich. People connected with the God of the universe. It was cool to see.

We had our Worship Team sing. This is a group of singers that formerly made up a choir. We had about 15 of them. I really enjoy when they sing. They are worship leaders on stage, not a performance "choir". They have such a neat spirit about them, and are eager to help lead in worship. The wall of sound from them is amazing.

I had a ton of distractions. I sat on my ear monitor pack during our pre service prayer time. My rear end panned all of my mix to the left side. Unfortunately, I do not use my left in ear monitor. In other words, I could not hear myself. So for the first 3 songs, I had no monitor. Our technical director saw me struggling and came out during an extended prayer time to fix my issue. Hank to the rescue, again! Then our back screen projector overheated, then restarted…during a song of which I did not know the words! So I kind of winged it. We made it out with only minor scratches.

All of these issues were a reminder. No matter how hard the waves crash around us, keep focused on Jesus. It was hard. I ain't gonna lie, but God was honored and worshipped. I felt really flustered. Rushed. Unprepared. But God… Haha! I love that line.

After the service, a gentleman came up to me to chat. He said that he had been dealing with some salvation issues. Right then and there, he prayed to receive Christ! THIS IS GREAT NEWS!! This is reason to rejoice and be glad. All of my selfish issues are totally trumped by being able to share in the blessing of seeing someone come to know the Lord.

Thank you Lord for allowing me to be a small part of what You are doing at HGBC!

So, yesterday was a good day…

CD Giveaway…

And we have a winner.

First let me explain how I choose the winners.

Every so often, you notice that ask someone to pick a number on Twitter/Facebook. The first one to respond with a number just picked the winner. I write down the names of the people who entered and assign a number. Today the winner is #7 which is Joely Powlas!!

Joely, since you come to church here, I'm gonna hand it to you instead of mailing it to you. Is that cool?

Come back next week for another little something that I will give away.

Donuts with Dads…

One of the cool things about having my boys go to preschool here at the church is that they do fun things and I get to join in. This morning was Donuts with Dads. I had the opportunity to go in and eat donuts with both of my boys. It was fun. I just hate that they are all sugared up for the teachers for the rest of the day. It was really fun for them, but more for me!!

Worship Recap…

Yesterday was an one of those "un-normal" days. We were on the backend of our DNOW weekend so we kept the worship leader over for our main services.

Chuck Hooten did a great job leading in worship. He had a slightly unusual setup. One of his band guys, Chip, stayed to help out. Chip is the kind of musician that can play anything. Chip did all of the bgv's while playing the banjo. Chuck actually said from the stage that he was just an ole redneck from Alabama. After several folks were hooping and hollering, I got nervous. Kidding. It was all good. Chuck and Chip played Mighty to Save during the second service. Chip played the accordion. I have never heard that instrument before. It was pretty stinkin cool! Overall, it was a good time in worship.

We also had our Senior Pastor, Dr. Brown, back in our second service. Pastor Clint was back at main.

Another Sunday of honoring God in word and worship at HGBC!

Praying with Miles pt.2…

I received a lot of good feedback from you guys. Thank you.

I have a better idea of how to field questions and facilitate conversations with Miles about salvation. This is huge, I don't want to get it wrong!

So today, during his prayer, he said, "And Jesus, thank you for dying in the cross for our sins. Amen"

I figured I would ask a few questions to see if he understood sin. Before I said a word, Miles says, "Sin is when you do something wrong. Maybe you tell someone you did something but you didn't tell the truth."

Then he said, "Jesus comes in and cleans your heart from sin when you ask him in."

Me: "how does He clean your heart?"

Miles: "With a hose."

Me: "Did He clean your heart with a hose?"

Miles: "Yes."

Me: "Nice"

Miles: "When I grow up, I want to be a Malloy!"

Me: "Son, you already are!"

That boy is amazing!! I'm a proud dad!
