SO I have been really busy here lately. Not busy like a ton of work, but busy thinking through some things.
Last week, I learned a lot. I am still learning about people here in my new digs.
Here are a couple of thoughts:
-When you raise the bar, some people will rise, some people won't. I'm not raising the bar to rid of people, but I certainly don't want people to stay where they are currently. We are all on a journey, and one of my roles as a pastor is to help others along their way. We will raise the bar again soon. There is no middle ground. Jesus says you are either for Him or against Him. Ricky Bobby says if you ain't first, you're last.
-I'm learning what is a "sacred cow" around here. A sacred cow is something that has to happen or has to be in place no matter what. I like that this list is really short. That goes for people. I am privileged to do this. I "get" to serve at the church. I am not a necessity. Therefore I will not behave like I am…nor should anyone else.
-I hate snakes. The Bible talks about a snake or serpent in the Garden of Eden. That snake caused confusion by twisted thoughts and words. Lots of people today are carrying on like that very serpent, twisting words and ideas. Rid the garden of snakes. It takes lots of prayer. I'm not saying get rid of people, but for sure, get rid of that attitude. Set the tone for how the ministry or "garden" operates.
- Rumors don't justify your actions. If you act on rumors, you set yourself up to look and act foolish. Matthew teaches us how to confront. Jesus' way is always the best way.
Just some thoughts from last week.
